Richmond’s gritty soundscape was on full display Saturday night at Richmond’s Gallery 5 for the Chester Skateland Deluxe Vinyl Release Party – headlined by the city’s top rapper, DuctTape Jesus. (Source.)

With Nick F, DJ Harrison, Hearnbean, and GAWD setting the tone, the energy was exciting. It was more than a show — it was a statement. Richmond Hip Hop has a distinct, undeniable sound, and tonight, we witnessed it firsthand.

As much as this was a celebration of Ducttape Jesus’ vinyl release, it was the mecca of Richmond production. According to DuctTape Jesus and GAWD, when it comes to the sound of Richmond Hip Hop, “The sound is Ohbliv, Nick F, Harrison, & GAWD.” And Saturday night proved exactly that.
