R&B’s Rising Star Brings Soul, Storytelling, and Surprises to the Stage

The Richmond Seen was on the scene Tuesday, February 4th at Shockoe Sessions Live, where Kaay Taurus took over In Your Ear Studios with a live performance that felt like an R&B revival.

Backed by a full band, Kaay serenaded the intimate crowd with classics like Tolls while also giving us a taste of what she’s been cooking—including a feature with THE Grammy-nominated Michael Millions.

Kaay’s soulful range is reminiscent of the early 2000s R&B/Soul wave, channeling the essence of India.Arie and Jill Scott. And in an era where people keep asking whether R&B will survive, her set was a much-needed reminder that love, loss, and real storytelling in music aren’t going anywhere.

But the self-proclaimed “R&B Baddie” didn’t stop there—she flexed her versatility with a pop track that has us wondering… could an album be on the way?

She teased the audience, saying, “Everybody keeps asking me when I’m going to do an album. Well, you’re getting a lot of that here tonight!”

And we can’t wait.

You can catch Kaay Taurus again live at The Broadberry for Chandler’s RVA Send-Off Show on February 22nd—and featured here from “The Seen’s 2025 Artist Watchlist” and the 9 Richmond artists to watch for in 2025, highlighting those who lit up Flag on the Moon.
