The Richmond Seen is excited to spotlight an upcoming event as Videometry transforms The Blackwell Drip mural with immersive projection mapping, blending technology, light, and community art on Friday, April 11.
Next Friday, April 11, Richmond’s art scene is set to glow—literally. Join Videometry at the Blackwell Drip mural, created by Heide & Chris Visionz, for an immersive projection mapping event that breathes new life into one of the city’s standout public artworks.
Originally painted as part of the Mending Walls project in 2020, the The Blackwell Drip serves as the backdrop for an animated experience that blends technology, light, and community. Local visual innovator Dustin Klein—aka Videometry—will transform the space using projection mapping, a technique that overlays digital animation onto physical surfaces.
“The idea is to bring more people to these spaces and highlight the power of public art in a totally new way,” said Dustin. “We want people to see art come to life—and feel like they’re part of it.”
And this time, they are. Richmond-based artist Silly Genius created a “Black Wall Street” coloring book page, distributed throughout the community at places like Studio Two Three and the Visual Arts Center. Community submissions will be animated and projected during the event, making this a truly collaborative moment.
“It’s about giving folks—especially young people—a chance to see their artwork on a huge wall, glowing in lights, and part of something bigger,” Dustin added.
