The Richmond Seen was exactly where it needed to be, front and center for a private, Live and Unplugged Recording at RVA Boombox. Produced by Tayvon Murray and Freedom Imani, this was, for all intents and purposes, a live recording of his latest work.

Freedom Imani is an international recording artist with a voice that commands attention. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Imani first hit the Richmond music scene in 2023. He is undeniably dynamic, with an electric, regal, and incomparable stage presence. An artist who is both passionate and spiritual about his gift.

Alongside with him was his personal Chef/Artist Michael Barnes (Chef Umbra) that set the tone before hitting the stage.

“The tone was definitely set backstage, to God be the Glory,” he says.

That night, the energy was amplified by artist Mycah Richardson/DJ Souta, who set the tone with an unforgettable set. Freedom Imani then took the stage, performing original songs like My Ex Wants Me Back, leaving the room shook and locked into his presence. There’s no denying that everything Imani does is unmistakably his own.

Now when it comes to the incredible band, he had this to say.

“These artists came with their own individual power. On guitar was Jackson Shurlds, on keys, Stephen Roach, on drums, Wynton Davis and Carrol Ellis on bass!! This project is soon to be released this year.”

Also on scene that night was his music Producer/Artist Quinton Jones!! They were excited to announce the coming of his new 7-track EP entitled “You Don’t Own My Life.”

Every frame of art was present in this show, the beauty of masterful instrumentalists meeting a voice as dynamic as Freedom’s. TeeyoDidThat provided Freedom with a personalized art mask to display as he enticed the audience on stage. And as if the night couldn’t be more immersive, artist EanJae provided an impromptu live painting, capturing the energy of the performance in real time.

What made it even more special was Freedom’s approach. This wasn’t just a show; it was an intimate exchange. He didn’t just perform, he truly saw his audience, making space to know exactly who he was gifting his art to. He shared his mic with other singers, such as Nache Nolastname, and invited audience members to introduce themselves and share what they do, turning the night into a celebration of community and connection.

And by the end of the night, one thing was clear: Richmond was given Freedom Imani—and that is a gift worth celebrating.
